Nautical Nymph

Ahoy! :D I’m all set for sailing with my first vintage outfit, the Barbie Resort Set # 963, produced from 1959 to 1962. I’m wearing a white hat, a red jacket, a navy and white stripe shirt, and white cuff shorts. The set also includes a white vinyl cork wedge shoes and gold charm bracelet, but since they are much rarer and harder to obtain, the price is much steeper. Tin got my outfit for a reasonable price sans the last two items.

For more info about Vintage Barbie and Friends dolls, outfits, and accessories, visit Fashion Doll Guide. If you’re interested in collecting vintage outfits for your dolls, there’s an updated (I think) ebay listing below every outfit in their site. :)

P.S The colors of my outfit reminds me of Blair Waldorf’s signature color palette in the first season of Gossip Girl. I heard season three will premiere on September 14. I’m looking forward to the clothes that Blair would be wearing. :)

Journey to the Past

Ever since Tin became my new owner, she has been researching all over the web about dolls in order to properly identify me. However, identifying a Barbie doll when there are hundreds of them, specially if not a Vintage/Mod or Collector doll, is extremely hard. She thought I was a Fashion Fever doll, maybe Barbie's friend Summer to be specific because of my features, but she has this nagging feeling that she's wrong. All she knew at that time was that I have a Generation Girl face sculpt (entry # 1)

Thanks to Charles, a former staff writer of Barbie Bazaar Magazine and owner of the website, dollstuff.net, Tin and I discovered a lot about my identity as a doll. :)

Lemme tell you about some stuff that we found out just today:

1. I'm a Fun Treats Barbie from 2001/2002.
2. Since I'm a Barbie, I'm not a Summer doll. Lol! :D
3. I can't be a Fashion Fever doll because the production of FF didn't start until 2004/2005.
4. And I do have a Generation Girl head mold. At least Tin got that right. Whew!

Here's a photo of me as a Fun Treats Barbie that Charles sent me:

And here I am now:

Tin rerooted me with the help of most probably the best doll customizer here in the Philippines, Niel of 1-6thsensedolls. :)

I will still have to go through some changes, but Tin would like to thank Charles and Niel for helping her discover my past and guiding her into making me a future full-pledged OOAK doll, respectively. :)

Have a great week everyone! :)

Gaga Over Lady Gaga

Last Tuesday, Lady Gaga performed here in the Philippines, and people who went to her concert can’t stop twittering about how fantastic she was. Sadly, Tin and I didn’t get to watch her concert even though the venue was more or less 20 minutes away only. *sigh*

Anyhow, since Lady Gaga is famous not only for being a total performer but also for her quirky outfits and hairstyles, what better way to show off my new hair than the Lady Gaga way! :)

Lady Gaga sported the hairstyle on the right for a press conference before her concert. She wore a blonde wig with purple streaks and a huge black hair cone which she named Korea.

Mine is the brunette version of her look. Can you tell the length of my hair based on the photo on the left? :)

A Peek Inside My Bag

Hi guys! It's been a while since my last post, and since Tin is still waiting for the right time to reveal my new look, I'm going to leave you with this one. Enjoy!

It started with MTV Cribs and until now, people are interested to see what's inside celebrities' mansions, walk-in closets, and even the expensive bags that they carry around. Before I raid someone else's closet or bag, I will let you see what's inside mine. And since I share with you what's in my closet one day at a time, I will just show you my fave bag and what's inside it. *drum roll*

Sunglasses - This gold pair is my favorite because it goes well with all of my outfits. Plus I love the heavy tint for that not so good days (Boohoo!)

Checkered bandanna- This belongs to Stacy, too (grins sheepishly). I bring it every time because of its versatility. It can be a bikini top (reminds me of 1959 Barbie’s swimsuit), a belt, a headband, and a neck scarf!

“Pinoy” bracelet- This is inspired by the colors of the Philippine flag. I might not look like a Filipina (yet), but I’m proud to be owned by one. :) You might be wondering why it’s in my bag and not on my wrist. Let’s just say that I consider this bracelet as a lucky charm so even if I have to wear another bracelet to complement an outfit, I still bring this one all the time.

Yikes, only three items, but you don’t expect a lot of items to fit a doll’s tote bag, do you?:)

How about you? What’s inside your bag? :)

FABulous Outfit

My top actually belongs to Stacie, Barbie’s younger sister. This is part of her soccer uniform, and though the bottom half (black shorts) doesn’t even get passed my knees when I tried to fit it, I think this shirt fits me just fine. Why wear a kid’s shirt? This might sound hilarious, but this look is inspired by a not-so-new FAB TV commercial. If you haven’t seen it before or you’re not from the Philippines, here’s the clip:

Wearing clothes supp
osedly for a younger sibling fascinates me. Which unusual closets do you raid for that perfect look? :)

Fashion Inspiration: Blair Waldorf

Ruffled Top, Fashion Fever. High-waisted Skirt, Barbie. Black Gladiator-like Heels, Avic1030

This outfit is inspired by Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) from the CW series Gossip Girl. I love how the red ribbon on the ruffles overhauled the black and white eyelet top, and how my high-waisted denim skirt toned down the dressiness of the top making my look casual cool.

Blair is my favorite character in the series because of her sense of style. She loves classic pieces, and she knows how to accessorize in order to update her look. I also noticed that she repeats some pieces, not just the accessories, but even the clothes! She gets away with being an “outfit repeater” because she knows how to mix and match them. Oh! I want to raid her closet! Hmm.. I think that just gave me an idea for my future posts. Watch out for that! :p

xoxo,
Holly

Me, Myself, and I Plus Tin and the Origin of My Miniature Closet

I’m Holly and this blog is told from “my perspective. ” :)

My name is an allusion to Audrey Hepburn’s character in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Holly Golightly. I am a Fashion Fever doll with a Generation Girl face mould (Tin is not quite sure about this, and she would be thankful if someone could confirm or correct this info). I came all the way from the Golden State from Tin’s cousin along with other preloved dolls. Tin restored all of us for her younger cousins to play with, but I caught her eye and she decided to keep me. She swapped my body with another Fashion Fever doll so that my body would have better articulation. :D

I could say that I am the main reason Tin got into collecting and making doll accouterment. My own miniature closet is full of clothes, bags, shoes, jewelry, and other accessories from Vintage to Fashion Fever, from authentic Mattel to Barlina, and from Ebay to DIY. I have an eclectic style and my love for art, music, and film will be reflected on the outfits that I will be wearing and entries that I will be posting here. This blog is inspired by sites like Lookbook and Chictopia, and its name was inspired by the photo above.

Lastly, since Tin decided not to collect other dolls (yet!) and I’m all alone here, I hope you would visit me here in my site and leave greetings or comments while you’re here. They would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for reading this far, good day and be blessed!
